Pebblefoot sniffed the night breeze. She thought she could smell the reek of fox in the air, but then again, she was an overcautious cat.

Sparrowsong stretched. She couldn't sleep. She twitched her tail and walked over to Pebblefoot. "Hello," Sparrowsong said quietly and sat next to Pebblefoot.

"Hi, Sparrowsong," Pebblefoot replied to her friend. Sparrowsong has been her friend since kithood.

"I smelled a hint of fox in the air, but you know how I can be." She didn't want to worry her friend, but she told Sparrowsong everything.

Sparrowsong snorted. "Foxes? I doubt that." She yawned. "Well, I'm going to try to go back to sleep. See you in the morning Pebblefoot." She turned to leave but stopped. "Don't worry. There aren't any foxes." Then she headed back to her den.
